We will soon forget this match of Gérald Baticle’s Bleuets against Austria, played on October 15th in Nancy. The little Blues lost (2-1) their last qualifying match for Euro 2025. They were not good, unable to compete with an Austrian team that had nothing to defend. The Austrians had no chance before kick-off to hope to qualify. The French did, and they needed at least a draw to secure first place in the group and qualification for the next European Championships in Slovakia.
But even beaten they are doing well since they will see the European Championship in 8 months with the best second place in the qualifying phase despite the defeat.
As in the first leg (2-0), the Austrians, well organized and solid in defence, took advantage of the errors of the Bleuets defense who, on two occasions, were punished for a dangerous alignment. The Austrian goals were scored by Thobias Hedl (59th) and Thierno Ballo (74th). Arnaud Kalimuendo saved the honor by taking advantage of a defensive error by the Austrian defense three minutes from time.
