A page turns in Corsica and in French football. In a press release, Alain Orsoni, 69, announced on Wednesday that he was leaving the presidency of the AC Ajaccio club. A club relegated a few weeks ago to Ligue 2 and of which he has been a historic leader for 31 years.

He had held this position from 2008 to 2015 – following the death of his friend and club president Michel Moretti – before giving up and returning to command after the resignation of Christian Leca in May 2022.

“The time for succession has come! It is time to open up new perspectives, to anticipate the future and the evolutions of a professional world in perpetual change”, he explains in this press release.

“A new president who will have full powers will be presented on July 13. It will be up to him to continue the adventure and why not bring us back once again to the elite of professional football, ”added the one who will remain president of the holding company.

Also known for being a former nationalist leader, Orsoni had the particularity of managing his club from… Nicaragua where he lives. But despite being eight hours jet-lagged, he never missed an ACA game. “I adapted to this situation, he told us in May before the match at the Parc des Princes against PSG. That does not prevent me from having daily contact with Olivier (Pantaloni), Johan Cavalli (sports coordinator), and all the entities of the club or from organizing meetings. I’m very present despite being 9,500 km from Corsica… And I come back five or six times a year. I’m used to all that, so I don’t feel at all frustrated not to live the matches with my group anymore. »
