Former Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, still hospitalized in intensive care after a brain haemorrhage on Friday, is in stable but still worrying condition, the club announced on Saturday. The 52-year-old former general manager of the Dutch club was on vacation on an island in Croatia when he felt unwell.

In a press release published this Saturday on Twitter, Ajax gave news of their former goalkeeper: “Edwin van der Sar is still in intensive care at the moment. His condition is stable but still worrying. The Van der Sar family, like Ajax, is grateful and very touched by the many messages of support.”

Van der Sar quit his post as general manager of Ajax Amsterdam in May, which he had held since 2016, after the Amsterdam club’s worst season in 14 years, ending in third place in the Dutch league behind Feyenoord Rotterdam and PSV. Eindhoven.

Considered one of the best goalkeepers of all time, he played for Ajax between 1990 and 1999, winning the Champions League in 1995. He then won again the most prestigious of European competitions in 2008 with Manchester United after spells at Juventus Turin and Fulham.
