A heated second division derby between Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers saw a shocking incident occur. A professional footballer bit his opponent in the neck during the game. The player has been punished with an eight-game suspension.
Montenegrin footballer Milutin Osmajić was shown a red card and banned for eight games after biting Owen Beck from Blackburn Rovers in the 87th minute of the game. The 25-year-old left a large bite mark on Beck’s neck.
“The striker admitted that he committed an act of violence by biting an opponent,” the Football Association (FA) said in a statement.
Osmajić was also fined 15,000 pounds. His teammate, Sam Greenwood, received a red card earlier in the game. Beck was sent off in the final minutes for kicking an opponent.
Biting incidents have become somewhat common in football. In the past, players like Luis Suárez and Luis Suárez have also been involved in similar controversies.
