Over 1,100 competitors will battle it out for the medals on the rowing canal under the hills this week and next
The 100th anniversary of canoe-kayaking in Bulgaria will be appropriately celebrated, in parallel with two world championships that our country is hosting. For the centenary, we welcome the future and history of world canoeing.
Over 1100 competitors and a total of over 1550 participants (along with coaches and team members) will be in Plovdiv in two consecutive weeks, in which the rowing channel under the hills will host the Canoe-Kayak World Championship for youth under 23, juniors and girls (July 17 – 21) and the Canoe Kayak World Championships for Veterans (July 12 – 14).
Over 800 athletes (1,200 participants in total) from 67 countries will be part of the Under-23, Junior and Girls World Championships next week.
Teodor Assenov, who won a bronze medal in the 200m single-person kayak at the European Under-23 Championships in Bratislava at the end of June, will fight for a prize ranking in the 500m single-person kayak at the world championships.
Pamela Ivanova, who will represent Bulgaria at the Olympic Games in Paris in the women’s 500 m single kayak, will participate in the 500 m double kayak together with Vanessa Dimitrova at the world championships on home soil.
9 Bulgarians will take part in the world championships for youths up to 23 years old and 18 in the competitions for juniors and girls.

The opening of the World Championships for youths up to 23 years old, juniors and girls is on July 16 at 18:00 at the rowing center in Plovdiv, and the competitions are from July 17 to 21.
Over 300 competitors (350 participants in total) from 37 countries will be part of the Canoe Kayak World Championships for Veterans, which will be held immediately before the U23, Junior and Girls World Championships. People whose lives are connected with canoeing will fight for the medals in men and women in different age groups – the lowest is 35 years and the highest is over 70 years.
The opening of the World Championships for veterans is on July 11 at 18:00 at the rowing base in Plovdiv, and the competitions are on July 12, 13 and 14.
