The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Azerbaijan, with the assistance of the International Labor Organization (ILO), plans to prepare a document on Azerbaijan’s position on the labor market and gender equality in the context of the fight against climate change ahead of COP29.

This was reported on Wednesday by Day.Az with reference to the message of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection from the seminar “Promoting a gender-sensitive and fair transition to environmental sustainability in the Republic of Azerbaijan” within the framework of the events “29 Conversations on Climate: The Road to COP29” held in the country in 2024.

Speaking today during the first day of the two-day seminar, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Anar Aliyev noted that the negative consequences of climate change are currently one of the global problems.

“Along with addressing climate change issues that affect all segments of society, it is also important to have a fair approach to gender principles and involve all segments of the population in the processes of achieving environmental sustainability,” he stressed.

The seminar was attended by the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva, Deputy Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan Javanshir Alkhasov, Head of the Entrepreneurship Development Department and Green Jobs Specialist of the ILO Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Cristina Martinez.

It should be noted that in November this year, Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will play an important role in mobilizing the international community to achieve progress in the fight against climate change.
