Porto came to its big meeting tonight (Saturday) against Benfica with the knowledge that a draw result will be enough for them to secure the championship title and take it from Sporting Lisbon, which held it for a season. So the Dragons did not end in a draw, due to the fact that they preferred to win and do it in the most dramatic way possible with a winning goal by Zaido in the 94th minute, which set 0: 1 at the end and gave the signal for the celebrations.
This is Porto’s 30th championship, when it is still far from the record for winning the issue, with 37 wins. Porto have shown clear superiority this season in the domestic league and this is a completely justified championship. The Blues’ big rival for the title was Sporting Lisbon, but the Greens-Whites who won the championship last season were unable to replicate the feat.
Porto’s victory ensured their participation in the Champions League next season, while Sporting, who will finish in second place, is also guaranteed participation in the home stage. In the third outing you will have to, like last season, play in the third qualifying round to try to reach the playoffs advancing to the home stage.
