In a busy start, Tricolor came out behind the score three minutes into the game. William made a cross on the right side, and in an attempt to move away, Rafinha headed it into his own net. Felipe Machado, who appeared behind the tricolor side to head, was in an offside position.

At 35 minutes, São Paulo attacked with great danger and almost tied. Alisson made a good cross on the right side, found Calleri at the second post, who headed hard for a great save by Rafael Cabral. On the rebound, Nestor was unable to hit hard and the goalkeeper from Cruzeiro avoided the goal once again.

In the final minutes of the first half, the tricolor pressure grew. After a speedy counterattack at 42 minutes, Pablo Maia ventured outside the area for a new intervention by Rafael Cabral. In the next minute, Wellington Rato finished from the edge of the area, the ball deflected in the defense and almost deceived the opposing goalkeeper, who ran to spread it.

On the way back from the break, Luciano replaced Alisson. In the next minute, Caio found the number 9 in a cross on the left; the Argentinian headed firmly and Rafael Cabral made another great save to avoid a tie.

São Paulo continued to attack and once again took danger in the 19th minute.
