The preparatory committee for the REAIM (Responsible AI in the Military domain) high-level meeting held a REAIM Insights talk concert on the topic of ‘Coexistence of People and AI for a Better Future’ at the Youth Culture Space JU in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
This event was planned to communicate and raise awareness of AI-related issues with the public ahead of the REAIM High-Level Meeting to be held in Seoul in September.
At the event held on the 20th, Professor Kim Dae-sik of KAIST and Chairman Park Young-wook of the Korea Defense Technology Society participated as panelists and explained the impact of AI technology on our society and daily life. An introduction to the REAIM high-level meeting followed.
In Part 1, Professor Dae-sik Kim gave a lecture on the topic of ‘The Future of the AI Era.’ Professor Kim explained the impact that AI will have on human thought and life beyond technological innovation, and the future we will face through it.
The second part of the talk session continued with discussions on the development of AI and international norms to regulate it. The panelists emphasized the need for international cooperation and norm-forming, especially regarding ethical issues related to the use of AI in the military. Chairman Park Young-wook said, “The REAIM High-Level Meeting will lead these international discussions and serve as an important platform to promote responsible use of AI.”
The REAIM High-Level Meeting is an international meeting launched to promote international discussions on the responsible military development, deployment, and use of AI. The first meeting was held in The Hague, Netherlands, last year, and the second meeting is scheduled to be held in Seoul from September 9 to 10.
The second meeting will feature high-level keynote panel discussions and expert talks on topics such as the implications of AI for international peace and security, specific implementation of the principles for responsible use of AI in the military, and the direction of development of AI governance in the military. Various side events such as an AI exhibition and youth participation events will also be held.
