/ The Canadian Soccer Federation announced the appointment of Allison Walker, a former official in the local Olympic Committee, as its Secretary-General, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the Federation.

The federation, which has been embroiled in a dispute with the men’s and women’s national teams, said it had considered 200 candidates over a four-month search and that Walker would officially take up her post on January 22.

“I am committed to promoting growth in all aspects of the game and ensuring a safe and fair environment for athletes to play and compete,” Walker said in a statement.

“I look forward to working with our players, teams, coaches and partners to build on the existing foundations of the sport and elevate the Canadian Soccer Federation to new heights,” she added.

Jason Devos, the former captain of the Canadian men’s national team, has been in charge on an interim basis since April, a week after Earl Cochrane left the post.

Cochrane was the latest high-profile official to leave the Canadian Football Association amid a long-running dispute between the men’s and women’s national teams. Nick Pontis stepped down as president of the Canadian Football Association in February, acknowledging that change was needed to resolve differences between the men’s and women’s teams.
