KYIV. April 6. UNN. The US State Department announced visa sanctions against several heads of courts and members of the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia “in connection with their involvement in large-scale corruption”, writes UNN with reference to Voice of America.

Sanctions were imposed against Mykhailo Chinchaladze, Levan Murusidze, Irakli Shengelia and Valerian Tsertsvadze. They, as well as their immediate relatives, are now barred from entering the United States.

“These individuals abused their position as the heads of courts and members of the Supreme Council of Justice of Georgia, undermining the rule of law and the public’s faith in the judicial system of Georgia. The United States continues to support democracy and the rule of law and will continue to help bring to justice those who abuse public power for personal gain. We support all judges who have the integrity and courage to act impartially and independently,” State Secretary Anthony Blinken commented on the visa sanctions.

The head of the “Servant of the People” faction in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, David Arakhamia, called this event “the last warning to Bidzina Ivanishvili, who crosses all red lines.”
“A very important event happened today. For the first time, four Georgian judges were sanctioned by the US for their involvement in corruption. (…) We repeatedly warned that this would end badly. We didn’t hear from the first time. Well, I hope it will happen now,” – Arahamia noted in Telegram.
The head of the faction also recalled that information was passed on Ivanishvili’s closest business circle, which “through its structures helps the Russians to circumvent sanctions.”
“I think we can expect news in this direction in the near future,” he added.
