Saccording to Eurostat, solar power for the first time has taken coal in the European Union’s electricity production in 2022. The share of the former rose to 210,249 gigawatt hours (GWh), compared to 205,693 GWh for the latter.
Poland and Czechoslovakia are the only two countries in the European Union to produce coal: 50 million tons last year, a decrease of 82% compared to 277 million tons in 1990.

Eurostat also notes that the dependency rate of the European Union on imports has reached its highest level in 2022, with 74.4%, an increase of 15% compared to 2021, which can be explained by the creation of large markets (9 million tons). The confidence level for imports, however, is lower than that of oil and natural gas, both above 97%.
