For the first time: strictly kosher slaughter in the country of Namibia

Last week, a kosher slaughter was held for the first time in history in the country of Namibia in Africa, by the messenger who came to the place last year Rabbi Yosef Rahimi.

Nearly half a ton (!) of meat and poultry will be distributed to Jewish residents and travelers in the area.

Here is a short diary describing what ultimately led to the slaughtering being carried out on the spot:

Like any emissary in a foreign country, far from anything Jewish, we discovered that we had to deal with this matter. One of the goals of the Chabad House is to help the local residents and travelers visiting the area with kosher.

In the beginning, several times we brought fancy meat from South Africa, but the quantity was limited, up to 20 kilos at a time. The need among the local Jews for an orderly supply of kosher meat, blessed be God, exceeded the amount, and of course when you operate a kosher catering service, you cannot rely on suitcases once every few months…

Thus, with zero knowledge about slaughterhouses, slaughtering, meat, prices, the method of slaughtering, we just started walking around all kinds of meat shops, and started to find out how to even start with it..

Very quickly we realized that it is a much more complex thing than we realize, like for example if the animal goes hunting, who takes it, and in general we only take half an animal…

So what about the other half? In short, lots and lots of details and things that need to be arranged.

We inquired about a slaughterhouse and closed all the details with her, when a week before the expected date, we were canceled..

It’s hard to describe the disappointment we felt, including helplessness, what can be done now that we haven’t done yet..

We have already started looking into opening a permanent line from South Africa of importing meat in advance before the residents’ orders, but..

Of course, before doing anything, ask the courier about the holy papers. Rabbi Shalita the King of the Messiah says that a kosher slaughterhouse should be established instead.

Armed with the blessing of the Rebbe of Israel, we set out to found the slaughterhouse and training, when on the way we passed about twenty different slaughterhouses!

God willing, at a good and successful time we will find a suitable place, which agrees to buy the parts that we will not take and you can butcher it with a knife, and all the surrounding conditions are suitable…

We closed the day and hour and breathed a sigh of relief!

They come to close the flight ticket for the butcher, and it turns out that due to the congestion the flight has sold out and there are no more flights for the time we scheduled.

We try here and there and stand by and nothing is in sight, when the slaughter is tomorrow… the Rebbe writes to learn Hasidism. We decide that it is a good decision to get up early in the morning and study.

And hope there is a blessing – the slaughterhouse agrees to postpone the slaughter until the evening so that the butcher has time to arrive and slaughter poultry. When the next morning at six o’clock, they go to slaughter the cattle…
