Paralympic climber Mor Sapir won the gold medal this evening (Thursday) at the World Championships held in the city of Bern, Switzerland. This is Sapir’s second consecutive win, who was also on top of the podium at the 2021 World Championship held in Russia. In 2019 in France he finished as the vice champion of the world.

Also at the World Championship, Ayala Kerem finished in 18th place in the combined competition for which she qualified after finishing in 10th place in boulder, the record achievement of an Israeli climber of all time, and in 33rd place in the lead.

Sapir said at the end of the competition: “In 2021, I didn’t know how difficult it was to be world champion, and today I understand that it is relatively easy compared to retaining the title of world champion. Throughout the year, I felt like I was the favorite, and from track to track that I couldn’t even complete half of its length, that belief disappeared Today, when I reached almost the top of the track, I feel that I not only won the world championship again, but also defeated all the fears that arose in me throughout the year.”

Sapir climbs without ten of his fingers, which he lost when he was injured in the avalanche disaster in the Annapurna range in 2014. He started climbing as part of the rehabilitation process. “After the injury I found myself having to live a new life without fingers,” Sapir said in an interview with ‘Davar’. “On the climbing route there are countless holds, each time the angle is changed. In fact, each hold simulates some kind of object from life,” says Sapir. “I had a huge sensitivity, I couldn’t shake hands with people, so instead of dropping more of my mother’s glasses and plates, I decided to find a way to hold onto things.”
