Draghi: “For the South to become able to spend funds and do it well”
Rome, 23 March (askanews) – “Next generation Eu resources are added to further European programs and funds for cohesion that will make another 96 billion available for the South in the coming years. But we have learned that many resources do not necessarily lead to the restart of the South, there are two problems: one in the use of European funds, the other in the ability to complete public works “: Prime Minister Mario Draghi said at the opening of the meeting. of the first day of “Sud-Projects to restart” the listening and discussion initiative promoted by Minister Mara Carfagna.
“Against the 47.3 billion euros programmed in the development and cohesion fund from 2014 to 2020, just over 3 billion, 6.7%, had been spent at the end of last year. In 2017, 647 public works started but not completed, in over two thirds of cases not even halfway, 70% of these located in the South, for a value of 2 billion “, recalled Draghi.
Becoming able to spend these funds and do it well is the primary objective of this government, ”he concluded.
