With a Prayer for Bulgaria, served in the Cathedral of St. Nikolay Mirlikiski Miracle Worker”, traditionally the celebration in Stara Zagora of the National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria began. Shortly afterwards, at the same time, wreaths and flowers were presented in front of the monuments in the city dedicated to the Liberation as a sign of respect and appreciation.

The ritual of raising the national flag in front of the municipality of Stara Zagora brought together representatives of the local and state authorities, members of the public, guests, as well as hundreds of appreciative citizens.

According to a tradition established in 2014, during the city-wide procession to the “Defenders of Stara Zagora” memorial complex, the crowd carried a 300-meter national flag in their hands. It was held under the motto “For Freedom… Let’s wave the Bulgarian flag” and was led by mayor Zhivko Todorov.

The “Defenders of Stara Zagora” complex was also the culmination of the city-wide celebration of the holiday.

“Today we celebrate March 3 – a date cherished in our hearts, because from this day the restoration of our country begins. We pay tribute and bow to all the revolutionaries and militiamen who died in the name of Freedom – so that Bulgaria would have it, so that we could call ourselves free Bulgarians! It is a great honor for us, because Freedom is soaked in the blood of our ancestors. We express gratitude to all Russian, Belarusian, Romanian, Ukrainian and Finnish soldiers, to the known and unknown heroes who died for the sacred cause – freedom! Don’t forget – we are an Orthodox and strong nation that even the scythe of the Ottoman Empire could not break – celebrate and be proud! Happy holiday, citizens of Staro Zagorje!” said Mayor Zhivko Todorov in his speech.

A gift for the holiday was a concert by Nevena Tsoneva, and the beauty of Bulgarian folklore was revealed with songs and dances by the “Zornitsa” ensemble at the “St. Kliment Ohridski – 1858”.

On the occasion of the holiday, patriotic songs are played again in public transport buses, and passengers are greeted with specially made cards.

The festive day in Stara Zagora ends with the patriotic initiative of the “Mood – 2017” National Center – “Awakening with Dance”. Hand in hand, young and old, will be united by Bulgarian folklore on the square in front of the municipality at 4:00 p.m.

Due to the national holiday on March 3, residents and guests of the city will not pay for short-term parking within the “Green Zone” on Monday, which is a holiday.
