John Mahama is sworn in as President of the Republic of Ghana, for the third time today, Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
Mahama, the opposition leader who began his political career as Minister of Communications, won the presidential elections held late last year, after pledging to address the economic crisis, corruption and unemployment.
It is worth noting that “Mahama”, aged 65, who previously held the position of president of the country during the period between July 2012 and January 2017, will replace the current president, “Nana Akufo-Addo”, and “Mahama” was sworn in for the first time as president. For the country, when President John Evans Atta Mills died in July 2012, he held the position for the remainder of that period, and then won the elections held in 2012.
“During his election campaign, the winning president pledged to ‘reset’ the country’s situation at various levels and tried to win over young Ghanaians who found in voting a way out of the economic crisis the country is witnessing.”
“Ghana’s economic difficulties dominated the elections, at a time when the country is facing inflation and a high level of debt, which forced it to borrow $3 billion from the International Monetary Fund.”
“Ghana is considered the largest producer of gold on the continent, a major exporter of cocoa, and a model of stability in a region rocked by coups, constitutional challenges, and rebellions.”
