The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, began his official visit to Argentina this Monday, by presenting a wreath at the monument of the Liberator General José de San Martín, together with the Foreign Minister of the South American country, Diana Mondino.

“We are great friends,” Bukele told the press regarding his Argentine counterpart, Javier Milei, at the end of the gesture and on his way to the Casa Rosada, headquarters of the Executive, where he will meet with the Argentine, with whom, he anticipated, he will talk about “many important things”, such as “energy, trade, security” issues.

The Salvadoran president arrived in Argentina last Thursday but spent the weekend in Patagonia to develop a private agenda.

The Heads of State held a bilateral meeting on June 1, during Milei’s visit to San Salvador on the occasion of the investiture ceremony for Bukele’s second consecutive term (2024-2029).

Shortly after, Bukele received the Argentine Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, in the Salvadoran capital, in a meeting in which they exchanged their experiences on security and the fight against drug trafficking, and in which the minister visited the megaprison of the Confinement Center. of Terrorism and signed a work agreement to strengthen the fight against organized crime.

The government cabinets of Milei and Bukele have appeared close after the arrival to the Argentine Presidency of the ultra-liberal politician, who has praised the Central American’s style of government, especially in relation to the fight against crime and his approach to security.

Both leaders stand out for their strong discourse against the traditional political system and the elites and have expressed a critical stance towards certain international organizations and defended a more sovereign vision of their countries, which brings them closer in terms of discourse.
