Ford is trying to replace the dangerous Takata airbags in 765,600 cars since 2015. However, some customers ignore the download. Therefore, the car manufacturer came up with an uncompromising solution.

The case of the dangerous Takata airbags, which can spontaneously explode and throw metal particles into the driver’s face, dates back to 2013. It affected more than 100 million cars of virtually all brands and on all continents. The fix resulted in the largest recall of all time and cost not only the lives of several drivers, but also the Takata company itself, which went bankrupt after the affair. However, the problems persist. This is also proven by the latest message from Ford, which informs tens of thousands of drivers who do not find time to change the airbag free of charge in company workshops, that it does not recommend them to use their cars.

The Takata case affected 765,000 vehicles of the Ford concern and the premium Lincoln brand in America. The automaker made more than 121 million attempts to reach affected customers in the U.S. alone, including letters, emails, phone calls, text messages and more than one million in-person visits.

As a result, 95% of US customers have successfully completed air bag replacements. However, there are still many who have not. The company warns them that as their cars age, the risk of explosion only increases. After all, some of them were produced as early as 2004, that is, two decades ago. The car company says it has enough spare airbags for replacement and is willing to tow the affected cars to repair shops free of charge.
