Belhydromet reported on June 13 that an unfavorable agrometeorological situation continues in most of the territory of Belarus. In the soil under crops, the reserves of productive moisture remain low. Rains are mainly in the southern part of the country, which does not improve the situation.
According to some meteorological stations, soil drought has reached the criterion of a dangerous agrometeorological phenomenon. On the lightest soils and elevated areas, yellowing, twisting and drying of the leaves are observed in cereal crops, in some places the plants began to dry out.
A serious deficiency of soil moisture can negatively affect the formation of the productivity of an ear of grain crops, is unfavorable for the growth of grasses after mowing, slows down the growth of a flax stem, forecasters comment on the situation.
Rains, which take place mainly in the southern part of the country, only slightly softened the situation. However, forecasters do not yet count on a radical improvement:
“Difficult agrometeorological conditions will continue in most regions of the country in the near future.”
Only in the second half of this week in the west of Belarus (Grodno and Brest regions) longer and more intense rains are expected.
May 2023 was the driest in Belarus since 1945. During the month, the country averaged less than 12 mm of precipitation, which is only 19% of the climatic norm.
