Foreign Affairs Adviser assures internationally credible inquiry into genocide

The foreign adviser of the interim government. Tauhid Hossain said that an impartial and internationally credible investigation into the recent massacre in Bangladesh will be conducted and due process will be ensured.

This was stated in a notification of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (September 1).

He said this at the 50th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the OIC held in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon.

The Foreign Adviser led a two-member Bangladesh delegation to the CFM held in Yaounde on August 29-30.

According to the notification, Tauhid Hossain informed the meeting about Bangladesh’s accession to the UN Convention on Enforced Disappearance and Protection of Persons.

He also mentioned Bangladesh’s continued engagement with the OIC and peace for Palestine, condemning Islamophobia, hate crimes against Muslims.

The foreign adviser also said that Dhaka is interested in engaging in more trade and investment with the OIC member countries by strengthening the transport and communication infrastructure of Bangladesh. This year CFM was held with the theme ‘Transport and Communication Infrastructure’.

It discusses several political, economic, social, cultural and security issues.

A resolution titled ‘Situation of the Rohingya Muslim Community in Myanmar’ was unanimously adopted at the CFM to continue to put pressure on the Myanmar authorities.

The foreign adviser also held a meeting with the foreign ministers of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan.
