No foreign voluntary organization shall purchase, donate, exchange or otherwise acquire any immovable property within Bangladesh without the prior approval of the Government. Keeping this provision, the Foreign Voluntary Organizations (Regulation of Acquisition of Immovable Property) Bill has been introduced in the National Parliament.
Lands Minister Narayan Chandra Chand raised the bill in Parliament on Thursday (May 9). Later, the Bill was sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Lands for examination and report within 60 days.
According to the bill, if any foreign voluntary organization acquires any immovable property inside Bangladesh in violation of the provisions, it can be confiscated by the government.
The new Act is being made by repealing the Foreign Voluntary Organizations (Acquisition of Immovable Property) Regulation Ordinance, 1983.
According to the bill, foreign voluntary organization means any organization, organization or authority, formed or established (whether regular or not) in any country other than Bangladesh. The purpose of which is to provide services to any person, organization or authority within Bangladesh, or to conduct voluntary activities.
