The ministry has allowed foreign investors to acquire residences in Oman. Those intending to purchase residential units will have to obtain the required documents and certificates from the Real Estate Registry Secretariat. Applicants will receive two types of cards. Applicants for the First Residence Card are required to submit documents for the purchase of one or more housing units worth Rs. 5 lakhs or more.
Those who buy a property worth Rs 2.5 lakh or more will get a second class resident card. Such accommodation units are permitted only in areas where foreigners are licensed to occupy land. Foreigners cannot buy islands, places near royal palaces, places close to security and military areas, and places where archeological and cultural heritage exists.
