Foreign Minister Defends Issuance of Diplomatic Passport to Prime Minister’s Son

In response to the controversy surrounding the issuance of a diplomatic passport to Prime Minister Yair Netanyahu’s son, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen has defended the decision. The uproar began when it was reported that the son had been issued a diplomatic passport despite not meeting the necessary conditions.

Cohen took to Twitter to address the situation, stating, “At the height of the war, vested interests decided to flood old decisions on the issuance of passports, and since there are many fakes, he proposes to sort things out.”

He further explained that only three heads of authorities, who are responsible for international relations, were approved for diplomatic passports. Additionally, mayors, including the mayor of Tel Aviv, had been approved for passports in different periods.

Regarding Yair Netanyahu, Cohen stated that the approval for the diplomatic passport was given in January for security reasons.

Cohen emphasized that the main focus should be on conducting meetings with the families of the abductees and with the incoming president of Argentina.

The controversy surrounding the diplomatic passport issuance comes amidst ongoing efforts to address pressing national and international matters.
