Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva assured that so far he has not received any confirmation regarding the death of the dissident leader Segunda Marquetalia, Iván Márquez. According to the minister, no information has reached him from Venezuela, which is why he questioned the death and incidentally pointed out that it would not be a surprise if the ex-guerrilla were still alive.
This is how he let it be known in the middle of an interview with Blu Radio where he assured that “the confirmation of the death has not been made, it is news from a medium that was never confirmed.” Foreign Minister Leyva also pointed out that high-ranking sources from Venezuela told him that “the dead that you kill enjoy the best health,” but that when he asked for explanations about that phrase, the response was a “sly laugh,” he said.
And it is that although it is true that from Venezuela they have not delivered a medical report that outlines the causes of death of the former guerrilla leader, EL COLOMBIANO was able to establish that his health had deteriorated for three weeks, and they even had to provide him on several occasions oxygen and kept him sedated from injuries from the attack on his camp in July of last year.
“He had lost several fingers on his hands after the attack, but he also lost a hand and the injuries to his feet became more complicated,” sources told this newspaper.
On the other hand, the version about the death of Márquez has not been confirmed by the Colombian authorities. “Regarding what has been said about Iván Márquez, there is no confirmation. We are carrying out the verifications, as General Giraldo has also informed us. We are attentive”, assured the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez. According to him, the last information that the public forces had about Márquez is that at some point he was in Colombia, after the attack he suffered at the end of June, and he was healthy “perhaps at the beginning of this year.”
The dissident chief of Segunda Marquetalia, according to rumors in July of last year, had died after an attack on Venezuelan territory. However, days later, that FARC dissident group confirmed that he was alive, although he was injured.

The truth is that the death of Luciano Marín Arango, alias Iván Márquez, leaves a power vacuum in the Farc dissidents known as the Second Marquetalia that could be occupied by José Aldinever Sierra, alias Zarco Aldinever, an experienced guerrilla who militated alongside aka El Mono Jojoy and who knows the drug trafficking routes between Colombia and Venezuela like the back of his hand.
The rise of “el Zarco Aldinever” would concretize the drug-trafficking character of this armed group, accused of moving illicit substances across the binational border and towards international routes in the Caribbean and the United States.
