Foreign player Janelle Stokes, who suddenly cut ties with the professional basketball team Goyang Sono, was suspended for two seasons by the KBL.

On the afternoon of the 19th, KBL held the 2nd Financial Committee of the 30th term and decided to impose a 2-season suspension on Stokes. Warnings were given to foreign and domestic agents related to him.

This meeting of the finance committee was held after Sono inquired about disciplinary action against Stokes for not keeping his promise to the club.

Sono has been undergoing training in Taipei, Taiwan since the 11th. Stokes, who was scheduled to join them at Gimpo International Airport on the 11th, did not show up at the agreed upon location.

The player’s side is of the opinion that more time is needed to join the team. However, Sono, who decided to replace the foreign player with Stokes, who had already postponed the joining date several times, announced his contract with DJ Burns on the 14th.

Stokes, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, was selected 35th overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2014 NBA Draft. Stokes made his NBA debut with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2014-2015 season and has since played in a total of 28 NBA games for the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets.

Stokes, who played in the Chinese Professional Basketball League from 2017 to 2020, briefly left the court to pursue a film business, but appeared to be returning as an active player after signing with Sono.

However, his return to the court fell through as he did not keep his promise to Sono.

In the past, Chinanu Onaaku was suspended for two seasons after not re-signing with Wonju DB in 2020.
