The interim government has canceled the contractual appointment of Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen. On Sunday (September 1) evening, foreign affairs advisor Md. Tauhid Hossain has confirmed this information.

Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen’s contract cancelled

Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday evening that the contractual appointment of Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen is being cancelled.

On December 31, 2019, Masud Bin Momen took charge as the 26th Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh. He was supposed to go on post-retirement leave in December 2022 as per service age limit. However, the then Awami League government decided to keep him in the same position for two more years in November 2022. Later, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification appointing him as Senior Secretary for two years on contractual basis.

According to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the notification of cancellation of Masood Bin Momen’s contractual appointment has not yet been issued. However, the process can be completed by Sunday (September 1) night. After receiving such a green signal from the policy makers, the secretary was dismissed.
