Foreigners celebrating Pongal near Tuticorin

Foreign tourists celebrated the Pongal festival at Pudukottai near Tuticorin on Wednesday.

37 foreigners from countries such as America, England, Estonia, Germany, Netherlands and other countries have come to Chennai and toured South Tamil Nadu by auto from there through a private organization based in Hungary.

They celebrated Pongal on Wednesday at their privately owned farm in Pudukottai, Tuticorin district.

According to Tamil Nadu tradition, men wore vetti-shirts and women tied sarees in 17 groups and enjoyed pongal in an earthen pot. At the end he was honored with souvenirs.

In this regard, program coordinator Brinsley told reporters:

Foreigners have come in 17 auto rickshaws. They started their journey from Chennai on the 28th and will reach Thiruvananthapuram on Friday (Dec. 6). He said that celebrating Pongal in Sayapuram has given them great happiness.

Pete Morgan, who is from England, said, ‘Pongal festival is an opportunity to know the tradition of Tamil Nadu’.
