Forest certification: Gabon champion in Central Africa

DIG/ According to the report of the accounting firm Ernst and Young and the socio-economic study firm Mays Mouissi Consulting, at the end of 2022, FSC Sustainable Management (FM) certified forest areas in Gabon accounted for 40% of FSC-certified forest areas in Central Africa.

The Republic of Congo, whose FSC-certified forests cover more than 3 million hectares, has 49% against 11% for Cameroon, including several certifications, notably those of the Rougier Group have expired.

In addition to forestry companies, around twenty industrial companies are FSC – Chain of Custody (CoC) certified, while two of them are certified by NepCon and OLB for timber traceability.

• 65% of FSC – Chain of Custody (CoC) certified industrial companies are located within the Nkok SEZ or are linked to the area developer.

• 6 UTB of the ZES of Nkok are in the process of FSC certification: Africa Elephant, Particle Board, Jin Yuan, Chanta Group, Classic Veneer and FTC.
