In recent years, the human tendency to behave dishonestly has been one of the most scientifically studied topics. Recent research has revealed that for many people, cheating and getting away with it can lead to an increased sense of satisfaction and a complete absence of guilt. Other studies reveal that people often use “moral flexibility” to justify their dishonest actions when they also benefit others, not just themselves. And now a study, conducted with 2,109 participants, provides strong evidence that unethical behaviors lead to changes in memory. These changes generate what researchers call “unethical amnesia”, which tends to forget bad actions and, therefore, repeat them without added remorse.
