Former ARENA mayor of El Tránsito sentenced to 88 years in prison

San Miguel. The former mayor of El Tránsito, San Miguel, Roel Werner Martínez Romero, has been sentenced to 88 years in prison for being the mastermind of the murder of former councilor José Aquiles Segovia, and the employee of the same commune, José Guadalupe Quintanilla.

The crimes that are attributed to the now sentenced, occurred in 2018 and 2019, as determined by the investigations of the Attorney General of the Republic.

Martínez Romero was linked to the MS13 gang and it was members of this terrorist structure who committed the crimes on the orders of the exedil, belonging to the Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena) party.

The former municipal official has been in prison since December 15, 2020 and by then he was considered the author of the crimes of financing acts of terrorism.

Together with the former mayor, two other members of the gang were prosecuted, on charges of Illicit Groups, in addition to the aggravated homicides and aggravated extortions that they committed between 2002 and 2019, indicates the FGR, for which they were sentenced to 862 years and 202 years in prison.

These two sentenced are Kerín Osmín Bermúdez (862 years in prison) for eight aggravated homicides, Attempted Homicide, 29 aggravated extortions and other crimes; and José Alexander Serrano (202 years in prison) for six aggravated homicides, Terrorist Organizations and others.
