Douglas Costa played for FC Bayern for a total of three years. Since his departure in 2021, he has been under contract in Italy, the USA and Brazil. Now he’s heading Down Under.
Douglas Costa is apparently joining Australian club Sydney FC. As reported by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, among others, the former Bayern star is set to move to last year’s fourth-placed team in the A-League with immediate effect.
Sydney’s sporting director Alexander Baumjohann, a former player for Gladbach, Hertha and Bayern, was keen to sign the Brazilian winger. Since Costa was recently without a club, Sydney would not have to pay a transfer fee.
For the 33-year-old, it would be the sixth country in which he is under contract with a club. Costa played in Ukraine for Shakhtar Donetsk, in Germany for FC Bayern (2015 to 2017 and 2020 to 2021), in Italy for Juventus Turin, in the USA for Los Angeles Galaxy and in Brazil for Grêmio Porto Alegre and Fluminense Rio de Janeiro.
