The royal decoration was presented to the current senator of the state of Alagoas (northeast) during a ceremony organized in his honor by the Moroccan ambassador in Brasilia, Mr. Nabil Adghoghi.

This distinction was awarded to Mr. Fernando Collor in recognition of his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and the close bonds of friendship between the two countries.

Speaking at this ceremony, which took place in the presence of the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Carlos Alberto Franco França, the former president expressed his thanks and gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for this “generous and honorable” tribute which reaffirms “the exceptional importance that the Sovereign attaches to the development of relations between Brazil and Morocco.”

“In addition to the growth of our trade, we have managed to consolidate and diversify our economic relationship. Political dialogue experienced a historic boom with the visit of HM the King to Brazil in 2004,” he stressed, noting that the two countries continue to consolidate their bilateral relations.

Mr. Fernando Collor also highlighted the dynamics of parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries, which he witnessed during his visits to Morocco in 2017, as president of the Senate Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee, expressing his conviction “that the links between our countries are essential for the strengthening of relations between Latin America and Africa.”

For his part, Mr. Adghoghi affirmed that it is a “tribute to the political career of a great statesman that Mr. Fernando Collor has led since the 1980s and which continues with brilliance and prominence in the service of Brazil.”

The Moroccan diplomat highlighted “the personal commitment and dedication of the former Brazilian president, who was also governor and mayor of Alagoas, to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation” between Morocco and Brazil.

For him, “Brazil and Morocco are developing, in a spirit of trust and ambition, a multifaceted strategic partnership. A partnership based on the values ​​of tolerance and openness that the two countries have in common, on convergence on relevant issues on the multilateral agenda, as well as on sharing the same vision of the opportunities and challenges of the contemporary world.”

Mr. Adghoghi also highlighted the contribution of Mr. Fernando Collor to the strengthening of parliamentary exchanges and consultation between the two countries.

The ceremony in honor of the former Brazilian president took place in the presence of several senators and ambassadors from Arab, European and Latin American countries in Brasilia, as well as other personalities from different backgrounds.
