The terms of Kevin Danso’s transfer to Rome had already been clarified. But at the last minute, this fell through for flimsy reasons. Will he now return to the Bundesliga?

Defender Kevin Danso will not move to AS Roma in Serie A as planned. The Romans failed the medical check of the former Augsburg player. Danso is allegedly suffering from heart problems, the capital club announced.

A claim that the Austrian international and his doctors cannot understand at all and which has angered the player massively. The 25-year-old expressed his displeasure via X. On Friday afternoon, he wrote clear words to the Italians’ medical department: “I am disappointed and angry about the course of events over the past few days and the failed transfer to AS Roma,” said Danso.

And he continued: “Above all, I am very surprised about the supposed reason for the transfer rejection. Both the ÖFB doctors and the RC Lens medical department have followed me closely and examined me regularly over the past few years. Most recently, I was checked thoroughly at the start of the preseason in Lens. Nothing unusual was ever found here.”

He concludes with the words: “That is why the interpretations of the medical check in Rome are extremely irritating for those around me and for me and are in no way comprehensible.”

As the “kicker” now reports, there was also great irritation that the doctor in charge of the medical check wanted to give Danso permission to play for six months, but not for the intended contract period of two years.

Therefore, the medical reasons for the transfer rejection by the Romans could actually be just a pretext. Rather, verbal agreements were not kept by the Italians and therefore not included in the written contract. As a result, the Danso side “pulled the emergency brake on Thursday evening,” as the report states. Rome then published the flimsy justification for the failed medical check.

The move to Rome is therefore no longer possible, but Danso, who is under contract in Lens until 2027, may still leave Ligue 1 on the last day of transfers. There is speculation about a return to the Bundesliga. Several media outlets are reporting interest from VfL Wolfsburg and TSG Hoffenheim.
