Given the current state of the Library of Fifadji, the former head of the 9th round of Cotonou, Robert Gbeffè reacted expressing all his desolation of his disappearance. He takes this opportunity to call on the authorities at various levels, in particular the municipal authorities.

What do you need to know : Erected in 2013 in the 9th district of Cotonou, the Fifadji library is in a state of disrepair and has been transformed into a canteen, according to the former Head of the 9th district Robert Gbeffè, one of the builders of this space of knowledge. He remembers the steps that allowed the erection of this infrastructure of major importance and says he finds it difficult to understand the inaction of the authorities. ” It is not normal. It is irresponsible on the part of my successors and especially of the municipal administration”, he laments while remembering the call he made in his handover speech on August 15, 2015. “This library is visited enough by young people and students of all kinds. Let’s make sure that this flame never goes out,” he said. According to him, the administration is a continuity and it is the duty of those responsible for the district to preserve this jewel. “When I go back to the creation of this library, I remember the mayor of Orvault (Nantes France), Joseph Parpaillon who responded favorably to our request by providing us with an invaluable set of books that the couple Nicéphore and Rosine Soglo completed for the installation of this library. We did this because we had noticed that grammar was flouted by children and we are aware of what a library for young people represents. When we did, we saw the enthusiasm of young students and lovers of reading in the frequentation of this library”, recalled Robert Gbeffè. He regrets that more than 4,000 books were abandoned in the weather and then piled up in canteens and boxes.

Between the lines : “It hurts because we invested ourselves in this project which is supposed to live for a long time, but which has not gone through a decade. If it’s because we did it with our own money so that it would be abandoned, then let them destroy the Fifadji bridge as well. Since we were also at the origin of the construction of this bridge through one of our contacts in Geneva”, was indignant the former head of the 9th arrondissement. He protests to say that this library and the Fifadji bridge are not alone. “The CEG le Nokoué for example, I was at the origin of this college, go to Zè, Dan and others to ask what we did when we were still in activity. But I am fiercely against the fact that this library has experienced this fate and that is why I am calling on the municipal authorities of the city of Cotonou”, insisted Robert Gbeffè.

Moreover : He estimates that, failing to maintain it and keep it within the bosom of the borough, the books of this library could be redistributed to the colleges of the city which have libraries or downright reinstall the library in another school which does not have one. Otherwise, he wonders if everything that President Talon is currently doing will be abandoned as soon as he leaves power.
