Former Chief of the Presidential Security Service Park Jong-joon, who is suspected of blocking the execution of President Yoon Seok-yeol’s arrest warrant, appeared at the police on the 11th for further investigation. This is the second day in a row of police investigations, following the previous day. Deputy Chief of Security Kim Seong-hoon, who took over as head of the National Security Agency following former Director Park’s resignation, refused to comply with the police’s third request for attendance.

The Special Investigation Team of the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency announced that it has been investigating former Director Park at the Migeun-dong Police Agency in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul since around 9 a.m. on this day. Former Director Park, who had rejected the police’s first and second requests for attendance, responded to the third request for attendance. He appeared at the National Police Agency at around 10:05 a.m. the previous day and emphasized that the attempt to arrest President Yoon was unfair, saying, “An investigation procedure commensurate with the status of the sitting president must be conducted.”

Former Director Park completed the first investigation and returned home around 11:10 pm on the same day. The police did not make an emergency arrest of former Director Park. Former Director Park, who had been under intense investigation for about 13 hours, told reporters, “I tried to be as faithful as possible in the investigative agency’s investigation.” However, other questions such as ‘What was the reason for expressing resignation?’ were not answered.

It was later revealed in the afternoon of the same day that former Minister Park expressed her resignation to Acting President Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance, on the morning of the 10th ahead of her police appearance. Afterwards, Acting Director Choi accepted the resignation letter within half a day, and former Director Park became former director during the investigation.

In addition to former Director Park, the police have requested the attendance of three executives from the National Security Agency. Lee Jin-ha, head of the Security and Safety Headquarters of the Ministry of National Security, appeared at the police station around 1:55 p.m. that day. However, Deputy Director Kim, who was acting as Director, refused to comply with the police’s third request for attendance, saying, “These are critical times, and I cannot leave my seat even for a moment in connection with the president’s security duties.” Accordingly, the police are expected to consider applying for an arrest warrant for Deputy Director Kim.
