Almuth Schult has returned to the USA and is now playing for Kansas City. The former national goalkeeper has now explained why she decided to move – and also talks about her salary.

The former national soccer goalkeeper Almuth Schult moved from Hamburger SV to the Kansas City Currents in America for the sake of her family. In an interview with “Bild am Sonntag”, Schult says that it is easiest to combine soccer with family in the USA. The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is the world leader in this regard.

Schult praises the many amenities that the club offers mothers. Starting with a minimum wage for players, which increases every year, to special leave for women who want to freeze their eggs for a later pregnancy. According to Schult, the annual salary is currently around 38,000 euros. By 2030, the amount is set to rise to 75,000 euros. The salary for mothers is the highest in the club. In addition, the women footballers are allowed to take their children with them to training or games.

However, the stint at Kansas City is not Schult’s first in the USA. The 33-year-old already played for Angel City FC in Los Angeles in 2022. However, her contract with the ambitious Californian club was not renewed after one season, and Schult returned to Germany to join Hamburger SV in April 2024, signing a contract with the second division club until the end of the season. Now she is moving back to the USA.

Since 2021, Schult has also been a regular in front of the camera as an expert on ARD football broadcasts, and since 2022 also on the streaming service DAZN, where she comments on games in the Bundesliga, the Champions League and the Women’s Champions League.
