Former Dodgers Pitcher Trevor Bauer Settles Legal Dispute with Woman Accusing Him of Assault

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Trevor Bauer, former pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has reached a settlement in a legal dispute with a woman who accused him of beating and sexually assaulting her in 2021. Attorneys for both parties confirmed the settlement on Monday.

Bauer did not face criminal charges in the case, and the settlement does not require a monetary exchange between Bauer and the accuser. However, the woman will receive a $300,000 payment from her insurance company as part of the resolution.

“Both of their respective claims have been withdrawn with prejudice, effective today,” said Bauer’s attorneys, Jon Fetterolf, and Shawn Holley.

The accuser’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, identified his client as Lindsey Hill and called the resolution “outstanding.” He explained that Bauer had previously sued Hill for defamation in April 2022. The settlement resulted in no payment from Hill or her behalf to Bauer. Additionally, Hill received the $300,000 from her insurance company, leading to the agreement.

Bauer, who became the highest-paid player in baseball after signing a $102 million contract with the Dodgers, denied the allegations, stating that the encounters were consensual. However, prosecutors decided not to file charges in February 2022.

Following the allegations, Major League Baseball (MLB) placed Bauer on administrative leave in July 2021. He was later suspended for an unprecedented 324 games by MLB, which was reduced to 194 games by an independent arbitrator in December 2022. After serving his suspension, the Dodgers cut ties with Bauer, and he was not picked up by any other team. He is currently playing in Japan.

In a video posted on Twitter, Bauer expressed his freedom to discuss the case, as the settlement protects his right to speak publicly. He claimed that Hill’s team concealed critical information during the case and displayed text messages allegedly showing her intent to extort money from him.

While this settlement marks the end of one legal dispute, Bauer still faces a separate lawsuit from a woman in Arizona. She alleges that Bauer held a knife to her throat, choked her until she lost consciousness, and left her pregnant in late 2020. Bauer was never arrested or charged in that case, and he has countersued, denying the allegations and accusing the woman of faking the pregnancy and attempting to extort money.

ABC7 typically does not identify alleged victims of sexual assault. However, in this instance, Hill’s attorneys publicly disclosed her identity in a statement on Monday.
