New trouble for Jens Lehmann. A lively celebration at the Oktoberfest ended for the former goalkeeper with the police. They stopped the 54-year-old, who was drunk at the wheel, and confiscated his driving license.
According to “Bild,” police stopped Lehmann during the night from Sunday to Monday in the Munich district of Sendling. He seemed to have been partying and drinking exuberantly at the Oktoberfest. At least, he gave the officers that impression, according to “Bild”; Lehmann reportedly smelled of alcohol and was swaying. The consequence: a breathalyzer test, but to no avail.
Blood taken and driving license confiscated
How much alcohol the former national goalkeeper had in his blood could not be determined at least for the time being. Allegedly, Lehmann was too drunk to blow into the device’s tube, so a blood sample was taken. Even though, according to “Bild,” it may take several days for the result to arrive, that did not stop the officers from confiscating the ex-goalkeeper’s license.
The Munich police did not wish to comment on Lehmann’s alleged drunken driving when approached by “Bild.” “It’s crazy that he got behind the wheel afterward,” said one of the officers to “Bild.” “Around the Wiesn, there are just so many police officers to prevent such drunk driving.”
According to the report, Chief Prosecutor Anne Leiding also confirmed the incident. “Mr. Lehmann was subjected to a police check due to conspicuous driving behavior with a car in downtown Munich on September 23, 2024, around 1:30 a.m.,” said Leiding.
More trouble for Lehmann with the judiciary
Lehmann himself “cannot comment on this at the moment.” For the 54-year-old, it is not the first time he has had issues with the judiciary. Last year, he was convicted and had to pay 420,000 euros. The reason: Lehmann had cut through a roof beam of his neighbor’s garage with a chainsaw, just to have a better view of Lake Starnberg.

The case will be heard again next Friday, as both Lehmann and the prosecution have filed an appeal. This drunken driving incident will not help his image.
