Former owner and head of the Russian cryptocurrency exchange Wex Dmitry Vasiliev was arrested in Warsaw, writes the Polish newspaper Wyborcza. Vasiliev was placed in a pre-trial detention center back in August, but this became known only now.

According to sources of the publication, the country’s prosecutor’s office is considering the extradition of Vasilyev to Kazakhstan through Interpol. There he is accused of fraud. According to the investigation, in September 2018 Vasiliev misled an unnamed man with the help of a crypto exchange and stole $ 20,000.

As previously reported by the Russian BBC service, on July 13, 2019, Vasiliev was detained in Italy, he was supposed to be extradited to Kazakhstan at that time, but two weeks later the court released him.

Criminal cases have been opened against Vasiliev in Russia, Belarus and China, the BBC reported. In all countries, he is accused of stealing $ 450 million using the Wex exchange. According to investigators in the United States, through it, money was stolen from investors from the EU countries, as well as from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Wex is the largest Russian-language cryptocurrency exchange, which has been operating since 2011. Trading on it was stopped in the summer of 2017. At the time of the collapse, the exchange had assets of several hundred million dollars.
