Former Jolla Management Takes Over and Creates Seafarix

Former Jolla management has confirmed that they have taken over the company after implementing an organizational reorganization this spring. The group, composed of former Nokia employees, is set to continue developing the mobile device operating system Sailfish OS.

Under the new leadership, Jolla will be chaired by Antti Saarnio, one of the original co-founders, who has emphasized the company’s commitment to developing a new version of the Sailfish OS operating system. Additionally, the vehicle system business will become a subsidiary of Jolla and be named Seafarix.

Petteri Paasila, the former Jolla sales director, will serve as the CEO of Seafarix. He has also stressed that the subsidiary will operate independently and focus on deploying the automotive system market.

Jolla was founded in 2011 with the goal of continuing the development of the MeeGo operating system promoted by Nokia at the time. While the company initially launched smartphones and tablets, it eventually shifted its focus to software projects after poor market response to its hardware products.

The takeover by former Jolla management marks a new chapter for the company, with a renewed emphasis on software development and expansion into the automotive system market through the creation of Seafarix.
