The Economic Department of the State Attorney’s Office informed former Member of Knesset Abir Kara, who served in the New Hope Party, that the Legal Advisor to the Government, Gali Beharev-Miara, is considering prosecuting him on suspicion of the offenses of forgery under aggravated circumstances and fraud and breach of trust, and this after accepting the recommendation of the State Attorney, Amit Isman.

Allegedly, during July 2021, when Abir Kara served as a Member of Knesset and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, when voting on one of the reservations to the National Insurance Law, Abir Kara voted from his voting screen. Immediately after that, he leaned towards the nearby seat of Knesset member Idit Silman (a right-wing member at the time), and while making her way to her seat, he also voted from her voting screen.

According to the attorney’s office’s announcement, this is how Kara created a registration in the voting system that was supposed to reflect a vote cast by two different members of the Knesset, while in reality he voted twice. After the members of the Knesset who were sitting nearby approached him and warned him to report to the Speaker of the Knesset that he had voted twice, he did Yes.

The investigation was led by Yaha Blahav 433 in the Israel Police. The case is being handled by the Economic Department of the State Attorney’s Office.
