Former MEP Alexis Georgoulis Faces Court Over Serious Allegations of Rape and Bodily Harm

by time news

The former MEP Alexis Georgoulis will be summoned to court, where he is accused of two serious offenses: rape and dangerous bodily harm.

This is the case that had been revealed in the previous period, with Belgian authorities completing their investigation and sending the file to the judiciary.

He had requested a postponement
It is noteworthy that the court date for Alexis Georgoulis was set for June 27, however, the Greek former MEP had requested a postponement – as he had the right to do.

Thus, the trial will be rescheduled for a new date, likely within the last two months of the year.

It is recalled that the woman who filed the complaint against Alexis Georgoulis, without wanting the case and her name to be published, had provided the relevant authorities with the reports from the forensic experts who examined her.

Now, the case will be tried in Belgian courts, with Alexis Georgoulis being called to prove his innocence and the complainant the truth of her allegations.

The other accusations
The complaint from the former employee of the European Parliament and current member of the legal service of the Commission helped to open up discussions about other abusive behaviors of the MEP.

In fact, two individuals who worked in his office in previous years accused Alexis Georgoulis of abusive behavior, however, the allegations did not take legal action.
