The former Minister of Culture and Sports José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes will be the new president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), as announced The Spanish and elDiario.es has been able to confirm. The Council of Ministers plans to appoint him this Tuesday, to occupy the position held by Víctor Francos until his resignation last Thursday.

Currently, Rodríguez Uribes was the Permanent Delegate Ambassador of Spain to UNESCO, a position from which he said goodbye this Monday and which this Tuesday will be occupied by the former Minister of Culture and Sports Miquel Iceta. He was Minister of Culture and Sports for a year and a half, appointed by Sánchez in 2020 and replaced in the Government remodeling of July 2021.

Víctor Francos resigned from his position in the CSD in a brief statement that cited “personal reasons” for leaving office. In his letter, Francos mentioned a “stage of stability in Spanish sport” with the formation of the new Government and his desire to “undertake new professional challenges.”

The CSD gained special importance after the crisis of the non-consensual kiss that Luis Rubiales, then president of the Spanish Football Federation, gave to the soccer player Jennifer Hermoso after winning the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and the subsequent crisis due to the refusal of a large group of footballers to attend the federation call.
