Michael Shane Vassar, the former boys and girls head wrestling coach at Palmer Ridge High School, was arrested on September 24, 2026, and booked into the El Paso County jail on one charge of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, according to local law enforcement.
Investigators from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office launched their inquiry on May 20, 2026, after receiving an alert regarding a potential sexual assault involving an adult in a position of authority and a minor, as reported by KKTV.
What began as a tip blossomed into a far-reaching investigation by the sheriff’s Special Victims Unit. Arrest documents reviewed by KRDO revealed that detectives uncovered more than 6,000 text messages exchanged between Vassar and the student victim from Palmer Ridge High School. The student detailed concerning interactions, including instances where the coach provided massages and entered a sauna before allegedly touching the student inappropriately.

Private Training Connections and Ongoing Law Enforcement Appeal
Beyond his high school coaching duties, investigators discovered that Vassar maintained a footprint in regional athletic spaces, offering personal training services online and through private clubs in the Pikes Peak area.
Leadership at Unbreakable Ministries released a public statement expressing shock and sadness regarding the criminal charges, confirming their intent to cooperate fully with investigators and urging any additional affected individuals to come forward.
Because of Vassar’s involvement with various local gyms and private training sessions, detectives suspect other victims may exist.
