Former Philippine President Fidel V Ramos Dies; Fidel Valdez Ramos, the leader who ended the dictatorship, has passed away

Former President of the Philippines Fidel V Ramos (94) passed away. Along with heart related problems, he was also affected by Corona. Ramos was the President of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998 and is the 12th president of the country. He was part of the Philippine Combat Team that participated in the Korean War. He also fought in Vietnam. Ramos held every rank in the Philippine Army from second lieutenant to commander-in-chief.

Fidel V. Ramos was the Vice Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines during the reign of dictator Ferdinand Marcos. But Ramos became popular during the People Power Revolution of 1986, when he broke away from the regime of President Marcos and supported the new government of Corazon Aquino. With this, a large section of people was promoting him as a hero. He later succeeded Aquino as the 12th President of the Philippines.

Served in President Corazon Aquino’s cabinet before being elected president. Ramos served as Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Secretary of National Defense from 1986 to 1991. He holds the honor of Special Forces of the Philippine Army and Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed grief over the death of Fidel V Ramos. “Our family shares the grief of the Filipino people on this sad day. “We have lost not only a good leader but also a family member,” Marcos Jr. said. Marcos Jr. added that the legacy of Ramos’ presidency will always be cherished and the people will be grateful to him.
