New Delhi: A former police officer has been identified as the mastermind behind the Ludhiana blast at a court in Punjab’s Ludhiana. The blast was carried out by former police chief Constable Gagandeep Singh, who was killed in the blast, police said. Gagandeep Singh’s body was scattered beyond recognition in the blast. The person was identified by a broken phone and a SIM card recovered from the spot. Gagandeep was dismissed from the police service in 2019. He was also sentenced to two years in prison on drug charges.

Police have questioned eight people linked to Gagandeep Singh. But it is not clear if he has links to any terrorist organization. Police had earlier said that the man who was killed in the blast had planted a bomb in the court complex. Eventually the person was identified.

Investigative agencies did not rule out the role of terrorist organizations, claiming that the drug mafia was behind it

Earlier, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had said that the blast was suspected to be linked to the drug mafia in the state. But investigative agencies said the role of terrorist organizations could not be ruled out. Following the Ludhiana blast, NIA and NSG teams visited the site and collected evidence. It is reported that a deadly explosive device was used. A forensic report will be prepared in this regard. One person was killed in a blast in court yesterday. Five people were injured. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a toilet on the third floor of the district court building. The toilet was completely destroyed in the blast.
