With an extensive tweet, former president Iván Duque asserted that Nicolás Maduro’s regime is looking to annul the elections held last Sunday, where there are multiple allegations of electoral fraud. The argument would be to use the supposed “cyberattack” to organize new elections.

According to the former president, who was one of those who led the ‘diplomatic siege’ against Maduro, the objective would be to repeat the elections and this time avoid any possible victory for the opposition. He even pointed to President Gustavo Petro as being behind this scenario.
“The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, would suggest repeating the elections to help Maduro, and it is being sought that Mexico and Brazil do the same,” said the former president about his successor. In this regard, Duque indicated that the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela is moving to demonstrate that there was a cyberattack that supposedly makes the results of last Sunday unreliable.
“By having the data corrupted, it does not accurately and truthfully reflect the expressed will, which would justify administratively and legally that the bulletins issued by the CNE were based on information corrupted by the ‘cyberattack,'” assured Duque.
According to the Colombian former president, the route to follow after a reported cyberattack is to have the CNE unproclaim Nicolás Maduro as the winner to thus “reduce national and international pressure.” Then it would be sought to hold a new election in December.
“This will allow chavismo to come out of the corner it is trapped in and reorganize its forces. They will have a four-month period to correct all the flaws, safeguard the system, and guarantee their triumph in December,” asserted the leader of Colombia from 2018-2022.
In this regard, according to Iván Duque’s complaint, the Supreme Court is looking to bring about a “social relief” that freezes the situation that has triggered protests. It would also seek to withdraw any allegations of fraud in light of the message that the data is unreliable due to the cyberattack.
“This plan must be avoided. Edmundo González is the president elected by the people, as shown by 82% of the protocols published by the brave electoral witnesses of the democratic resistance,” concluded the former Colombian president in the communication.
Other allegations from Duque
In a previous tweet, Iván Duque assured that the Nicolás Maduro regime would be “moving a dangerous criminal apparatus” to reprint electoral material and falsify counting protocols.
“This explains why, despite more than 80% of the protocols having been published by brave witnesses of the democratic resistance, there are allied governments of Maduro asking to ‘publish all the protocols’, despite the evidence. This entire macabre plan must be stopped immediately. Edmundo González is the president, and that is how he must continue to be recognized by the international community,” the former president stated.
According to Duque, this is done with the purpose of giving the regime time to “usurp the popular will” and open a negotiation. Although he does not mention names in his message, this tweet has been interpreted as a message for President Gustavo Petro, who has repeatedly called for all protocols to be published and for a transparent counting process to be allowed. “The CNE protocols and their auditing are fundamental for the transparency of any electoral process,” stated President Petro this Friday.
