Former President Trump Rejects Rep. Tom Emmer: Updates on Speaker Race

by time news

It seems that former President Donald Trump has officially come out against Rep. Tom Emmer, the speaker designee, in a recent post on his social media platform, Truth Social. This comes as Emmer attempts to win over 26 GOP members who voted against him in a recent roll call vote held behind closed doors.

In his post, Trump stated, “I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors. RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them.” Trump accuses Emmer of fighting against him and spending more time defending Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar than supporting Trump. He claims that Emmer is out of touch with Republican voters and questions whether his Pro-Trump stance is genuine or just a strategic move to win over votes. Trump warns that voting for Emmer, whom he refers to as a “Globalist RINO,” would be a “tragic mistake.”

Emmer drew criticism when he publicly criticized a Trump rally crowd for chanting “send her back” in reference to Rep. Omar, who represents the same state as Emmer.

According to sources close to Trump, his stance on Emmer has recently shifted. While Trump had previously indicated that he would stay neutral in the speaker’s race, he changed his tune after seeing a tweet from Emmer responding to Trump’s remarks in New Hampshire. Trump was reportedly angered by the tweet, feeling that Emmer was being deceptive and claiming a relationship that does not exist. Emmer’s tweet expressed gratitude to Trump and stated that if elected Speaker of the House, he looks forward to continuing their strong working relationship. However, a source close to Trump asserts that Emmer has not been a friend to Trump for several years and is now falsely presenting himself as the “Trump candidate” or “Trump whisperer.”

This development adds an interesting dynamic to the speaker’s race, as Emmer now faces opposition from the former president. It remains to be seen how this will impact the opinions and decisions of GOP members as they consider who to support for the speaker position.
