The Russian security forces put the former speechwriter of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the wanted list. He is suspected of criminal offenses.

According to the Associated Press, Abbas Gallyamov wrote speeches for Putin when he served as Russian Prime Minister from 2008–2012. Later, Gallyamov became a political consultant and analyst who was often quoted by Russian and foreign media. In recent years he has lived abroad.

Journalists found out that Gallyamov is listed in the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. His entry stated that he was wanted “under an article of the criminal code,” but did not specify which one.

Last month, the Russian Ministry of Justice added Gallyamov to its register of foreign agents, which requires further scrutiny by the government.

The department said that Gallyamov “distributed materials created by foreign agents among an unlimited circle of people, spoke out against the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and participated as an expert and respondent on information platforms provided by foreign structures.”

In turn, Gallyamov told AP journalists that he learned about what he was looking for from the media. No law enforcement agencies have been in contact, so he does not know what charges he was charged in Russia.

“I suppose that formally this is a crime of discrediting the army. It is used against everyone who refuses to expand the Kremlin’s scenario and tries to conduct an objective and impartial analysis of what is happening,” Putin’s ex-speechwriter said.

Gallyamov called the move against him part of the Russian government’s “strategy of intimidation”.
